Every Acupoint, Explained: A Reference Dictionary

After an acupuncture session, you might leave with a few names floating in your head — LI4, ST36, GV20. What do those points actually do? Why those, and not others?

This is the resource that answers that question.

It’s a complete dictionary of acupuncture points across the standard channel system. For each point, you’ll find a clear summary of:

  • Its functions — what the point does in the body
  • Its clinical applications — the symptoms and conditions it’s commonly used to address

That’s it. No needling technique, no point selection methodology, no theory of how to decide which points to use for a given case. Those are real skills that take real time, and we’re not going to pretend a reference book can teach them. They belong in their own courses, which we’ll release as this series continues.

What this dictionary gives you is clarity. If your practitioner used a particular point and you want to understand why, you can look it up. If you’re studying TCM and want a clean, reliable summary of every point in one place, it’s here. If you work in a related field — tuina, qigong, shiatsu — and need a lookup tool you can trust, this will serve you.

Who this is for

  • Patients curious about what their acupuncturist is actually doing
  • Students of Chinese medicine building a working foundation
  • Practitioners of adjacent body-based disciplines who want accurate point information
  • Anyone who likes to understand things from the ground up

What’s coming after

This dictionary is the first piece of a larger curriculum. Future courses will cover how points are selected in clinical practice — by pattern, by channel, by syndrome — and the reasoning that turns a list of points into actual medicine. Start here, and you’ll have the vocabulary ready when those courses arrive.

A reference, not a recipe book. Use it well.
